The nominations are in and while Avatar and The Hurt Locker were well-represented to exactly no one's surprise, the addition of another sci-fi gem and a few dark horses in the supporting actor and adapted screenplay categories means this year's Oscars could be full of surprises, not to mention a battle of the exes as former spouses James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow are both up for directing nods

When director Scott Cooper approached him with the script for Crazy Heart, Jeff Bridges turned down the part of a lifetime.

Sure, the role of outlaw country burnout Bad Blake had great potential, but the project was just a hollow shell at that point.
"It was missing that essential part," Bridges said. "There was no music to it, and if you didn't have good music for this, no matter how good the story, it wasn't going to be any good. So I took a pass on it."

But, if the movies have taught us anything it's that love, while wondrous and life-affirming and other hyperbolic adjectives, it can also be rife with comedic possibilities, causing people to behave like imbeciles, petulant children or lovesick fools, much like the twosomes who make up our favourite rom-com couples.
